The text of the letter is printed below.

Your Eminence,

This comes to you with my deep sorrow at the passing away of the Primate of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine, the Most Reverend Metropolitan Volodymyr of Kiev and All Ukraine.

Our brother has gone to the Lord after a long struggle against illness. He has been a source of strength and perseverance for the Orthodox Church in Ukraine over the years, demonstrating an enduring affection for the people. Over the years Metropolitan Volodymyr has held significant positions in the Church and was well known as a preacher and teacher. His contributions to theological education through his numerous research papers on theology are well acknowledged.

During this time of sorrow and loss, I send to you and to all the members of the Holy Synod, the clergy and the laity of your church my unreserved commiseration and assure you of my sincere prayers.

May God give you wisdom and strength as you continue your ministry during this period of many challenges and change in Ukraine.

In Christ

The Most Reverend and Right Honourable Justin Welby
Archbishop of Canterbury
