The Archbishop of Canterbury has visited Brussels where he spoke at an ecumenical conference and was hosted by the Anglican Bishop in Europe, the Rt Revd Dr Robert Innes.

Yesterday evening Archbishop Justin Welby gave a keynote address at the Les Grandes Conférences Catholiques, where he spoke in French about the future of ecumenical relations.

Earlier in the day he visited the Royal Palace for an audience with Philippe, King of the Belgians.

Accompanied by Bishop Robert, he then visited the European Commission headquarters to meet with Frans Timmermans, the First Vice-President who is responsible amongst other things for the dialogue process with religions.

After a working lunch at the British Residence, the Archbishop also met with the new President of the European Council, Donald Tusk. He then met representatives from the Belgian government and education system.

During his stay, the Archbishop also dedicated and prayed for the new offices of the Bishop in Europe in Brussels.
