Archbishop Sarah will make the visit from Sunday, 26 July to Saturday, 8 August 2026, at the invitation of the Primate of West Africa and Bishop of Asante-Mampong, the Most Revd Dr Cyril Kobina Ben‑Smith. Archbishop Sarah recently held an online meeting with Archbishop Cyril, who attended her Installation at Canterbury Cathedral on Wednesday, and met with him as part of the delegation of Primates of Anglican provinces in Africa who attended the Installation.
This week, 32 provinces of the Anglican Communion were represented at Archbishop Sarah’s Installation at Canterbury Cathedral. Twenty-six primates and four official primatial representatives attended the service, as well as other representatives from around the Communion. On Thursday and Friday this week, Archbishop Sarah met with ecumenical and regional delegations of Anglican Primates in Canterbury, and spent further time in fellowship, conversation and prayer with many of the primates who attended the Installation.
The Church of the Province of West Africa covers 19 dioceses in eight countries of West Africa. Archbishop Sarah will visit Ghana and Cameroon.
The purpose of Archbishop Sarah’s visit to West Africa is to learn and listen, to strengthen the ties between the See of Canterbury and the Province, and to foster deeper ecumenical relationships. The visit is part of Archbishop Sarah’s commitment to building relationships across the Anglican Communion, and sharing in the life, witness and mission of Anglicans around the world.
