On the second day of her visit to Ghana, the Archbishop of Canterbury met with political leaders and spent time with the bishops of the Anglican Church of Ghana.
This morning Archbishop Sarah paid a courtesy call on the President of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama.
The Archbishop met with President Mahama at Jubilee House in Accra, with the Primate of West Africa, Archbishop Dr Cyril Kobina Ben‑Smith; the British High Commissioner, His Excellency Christian Rogg; Ministers and officials of the Government of Ghana, and the bishops of the Church of Ghana.
Thanking the President for his hospitality, Archbishop Sarah spoke about her pastoral visit to Ghana, and the important role that the Church of Ghana plays in the life of the country and the Anglican Communion.
The Archbishop then travelled to the offices of the Internal Province of Ghana to meet with the bishops of the Church of Ghana. Together they spent time in conversation and prayer, and the bishops reflected on the joys and challenges in their dioceses.
The Archbishop of Canterbury is visiting the Church of the Province of West Africa - her first pastoral visit to Africa since taking office - at the invitation of the Primate of West Africa.
Tomorrow the Archbishop will meet with young people, members of the Mothers’ Union, and ecumenical and interfaith leaders.
