Archbishop Sarah had an audience with the King of the Ashanti Kingdom (the Asantehene) at his official residence, Manhyia Palace, in Kumasi.
During the audience, His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and Archbishop Sarah exchanged greetings, gifts and spoke of their shared Anglican faith. They also reflected on the bonds of affection and history between the Ashanti Kingdom and the Anglican Communion.
Archbishop Sarah said, "It was a great honour to have an audience with the King of the Ashanti Kingdom in Kumasi today.
"I thanked His Majesty for his support for the Church of Ghana and for the Ghanaian people. We reflected on our shared Anglican faith, and our shared calling as fellow pilgrims in the way of Jesus Christ.
Thank you, Your Majesty, for your hospitality and for this time of conversation, prayer and worship together."
Following the meeting, the Revd Akua Ofori-Boateng from the Diocese of Accra presided at Evensong at the Palace, with Archbishop Sarah delivering the homily.
