A historic setting with cinematic impact

For over 800 years, Lambeth Palace has stood at the heart of London’s story. Behind its iconic red‑brick gatehouse and riverside gardens lies a unique blend of architecture, opulent interiors, and atmospheric chapel spaces – all offering a stunning backdrop for film, television, documentary, commercial and photography productions.

Whether you’re looking for a grand hall steeped in heritage, intimate panelled rooms, sweeping staircases, or tranquil outdoor spaces with uninterrupted views, Lambeth Palace provides a versatile canvas unlike any other location in London.

Why choose Lambeth Palace

Unrivalled architectural diversity

Lambeth Palace combines centuries of architectural styles in one location:

  • Medieval towers and cloisters
  • Tudor red‑brick façades
  • Expansive drawing rooms and banqueting halls
  • Sweeping stone staircases and long corridors
  • Lush private gardens and courtyards
  • Historic chapels and vaulted crypts

Key architectural styles

  • Early English Gothic: The 13th-century crypt and its 15th-century chapel constitute the oldest part.
  • Tudor (1490s): The prominent, red-brick Morton’s Tower serves as the main entrance, featuring traditional Tudor gatehouse design. Several Tudor-era rooms and spaces.
  • Neo-Gothic (Early 19th Century): The residential apartments, rebuilt in the 1830s by architect Edward Blore, are designed in a Gothic style using Bath stone.
  • Medieval/Gothic: Rebuilt after the Civil War, the Great Hall (1660s) was designed to emulate a medieval hall after Commonwealth-era damage. While it features a "new old-fashioned" Gothic-style hammerbeam roof, it is known for its Gothic pointed windows and Baroque detailing, such as classical cornices.
  • Modern: The 21st-century Atrium (opened 2000) links the historic 12th-century chapel to the main palace building.

The complex also features the Lollards’ Tower (c. 1435), built with Kentish Ragstone, which has a distinct medieval, defensive appearance.

Perfect for period dramas, documentaries, fantasy, historical re-enactments, and modern productions needing a timeless setting.
