Archbishop Justin's Primates Visits

On taking office in March 2013, Archbishop Justin committed to visiting every Province of the Anglican Communion within 18 months.

His desire was to express solidarity, build personal and professional bonds with fellow Primates, understand Anglican churches in their local contexts, and lay foundations for good collaboration over the coming years. 

In 2013, Archbishop Justin visited Anglican provinces in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda; the Middle East; Central America; and the Far East. 

The following year he travelled to South Sudan and the Great Lakes, North America, South Asia, the South Pacific, South America, West Africa, Ireland and Scotland. Archbishop Justin's wife, Caroline, travelled with him throughout the visits.

The Anglican Communion is a family of 38 self-governing churches which spans 165 countries, six continents and some 85 million people. Primates are the chief archbishops or bishops of a province.

On completing his "pilgrimage around the Communion", the Archbishop told the Church of England's General Synod that the Anglican Communion is "flourishing". Read his address here.
