Archbishop Justin's primate visits
Archbishop Justin in Cairo with the Bishop of Egypt and the Horn of Africa, Bishop Mouneer Anis, during a visit to Anglican primates in the Middle East, 23 June 2013.
Primates are the chief archbishops or bishops of a province of the worldwide Anglican Communion, a family of 38 self-governing churches which spans 165 countries, six continents and some 85 million people.
Archbishop Justin has committed to visiting all of his fellow primates in their own provinces during his first 18 months in office. His desire is to express solidarity, build personal and professional bonds, understand the primates’ work in their local contexts, and lay foundations for good collaboration over the coming years.
Two months after his installation in March 2013, Archbishop Justin visited primates in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. In the same year he visited primates in the Middle East, Central America, and the Far East.
In 2014 the Archbishop has so far visited primates in South Sudan and the Great Lakes; the USA and Canada; and South Asia, with the remaining visits planned before the end of the year.
