Justin Welby to take seat in House of Lords as Archbishop

 

Justin Welby takes seat in House of Lords as ArchbishopJustin Welby will be re-introduced to the House of Lords as Archbishop of Canterbury on 26th February 2013.

Bishop Justin was introduced as Bishop of Durham in January 2012, and has sat on the Lords Spiritual bench since then.

The Lords Spiritual are the 26 bishops of the Church of England who serve in the House of Lords along with the Lords Temporal, and include the Archbishops of Canterbury and of York, the Bishops of London, Durham and Winchester, and 21 senior bishops of the Church of England.

In summer 2012 Bishop Justin was recruited to the Parliamentary Commission on Banking Standards, which seeks to improve professional standards and culture within the UK banking sector. As Archbishop, he will maintain his seat on the Commission until it has produced its final report.
