Friday 20th February 2015

Archbishop Justin Welby looking forward to 'celebrating' the life of the region and the Church in Birmingham.

The Archbishop of Canterbury will tomorrow begin a four-day visit to churches and communities in the Diocese of Birmingham.

During the packed visit Archbishop Justin Welby will join City Pastors on Birmingham's Broad Street on Saturday night and visit a church-run winter night shelter.

Elsewhere he will preach at Birmingham Cathedral, and pray with local business and civic leaders. He will also visit several schools to meet with students and teachers.

Other highlights will include a special 16-30s event called 'A Recipe for Life', in which the Archbishop will be baking with Great British Bake-Off quarter finalist Martha Collison.

During the visit the Archbishop will give a keynote address at an inter-faith conference on tackling poverty, and also deliver a lecture on geopolitics.

Throughout the four days the Archbishop will meet with clergy from the diocese and attend a range of church services, including the 850th anniversary of Curdworth St Nicholas on Monday evening.

Ahead of the visit, the Archbishop said: "I'm really excited about visiting Birmingham. There is so much to celebrate in the life of the region and in the life of the local church. During this visit I am really looking forward to seeing what God is doing with and through the many different people in many different ways."
