The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, visited Lisbon this weekend to celebrate and support the Lusitanian Church in Portugal.
During his visit on the 17th-18th February, Archbishop Justin preached at a Eucharist service in the Catedral de São Paulo, addressed the 100th Diocesan Synod of the Lusitanian Church and chaired an inter-faith leaders meeting. He was given a tour of the Sagrada Familia Social Centre, and met with the President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
The Archbishop said, “It has been beautiful to see the life of the church in Portugal, and to celebrate the faith and witness of the Lusitanian Church as they hold their 100th Diocesan Synod. It is always a privilege to meet and pray together, and to remember that we are a global communion and a global church.”
Archbishop Justin also visited St George’s church, Diocese in Europe, where he met with congregants and walked through the church grounds, which hold a British cemetery.’
