General Synod London Sessions, 15-16 November 2005 Archbishop's speech moving the Loyal Address
Wednesday 16 November 2005
Madame Chair, I seek to move that 'A Loyal Address be presented to Her Majesty the Queen'.
It has been the custom of this Synod, since 1970, to submit a Loyal Address at the Inauguration of each new Synod and the motion before you invites you to agree that we should do so again on this occasion. As to the text of the address, under standing order 110 is for the Archbishop of York and myself to settle the text finally on your behalf; a copy was circulated on yesterday afternoon's notice paper. The language inevitably is formal but this is a moment when formality is in order. So I invite you to approve Item 6 and in so doing to convey to Her Majesty a clear message of our support and our deep gratitude.
