Archbishop of Canterbury to sign Churches Together in England Presidents' Covenant

In one of his first major ecumenical acts after being enthroned, Dr Williams added his name to a Covenant signed between the Presidents of Churches Together in England
The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, will endorse a personal Covenant between the Presidents of Churches Together in England, at a church service tonight (Wednesday 12 March) in London. The signing will be part of the service in which the Revd David Coffey is inducted as the next Free Churches Moderator and will take place at Westbourne Park Baptist Church, Paddington at 6pm.
The original Covenant was signed by the Presidents of Churches Together in England on 2 June 2002 in the presence of Her Majesty the Queen immediately following the Jubilee Service at St George's Chapel, Windsor. Since then, Dr Williams has succeeded Dr George Carey as Archbishop of Canterbury, and the Revd David Coffey takes over from the Revd Anthony Burnham as Free Church Moderator.
The other signatories to the covenant are Cardinal Cormac Murphy O'Connor, the Archbishop of Westminster, and the Revd Esme Beswick, of the Joint Anglo Caribbean Council of Churches.
Dr Williams said, "I am delighted to be able to share the beginning of my ecumenical ministry in England with David Coffey, and to be sharing in this personal commitment to work, pray and study together. The Covenant is a sign of the friendship between the church leaders and of our determination to persevere in our work for the visible unity of Christ's Church."
