Archbishop hosted event in support of local encounter between Christians and Muslims

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, hosted an event at Lambeth Palace which brought together 50 imams and clergy from 25 local areas to encourage and strengthen local inter faith relationships.      

The Archbishop spoke of the significance for each religion of seeing the other taking God seriously – "their face turned towards God in prayer." "We can give thanks," he said, "for what the other is doing in community and for community".

Archbishop celebrates 350th Anniversary of the Royal Society

The Archbishop of Canterbury preached at a special evensong service at St Paul's Cathedral in celebration of the Royal Society's 350th anniversary. The historic link between the cathedral and society dates back to 1660 when a young Christopher Wren gave a lecture there on astronomy which led to the foundation of the society.

The Archbishop of Canterbury preached at a Service for the New Parliament at St Margaret's Church, Westminster Abbey. There were many new faces at the service, which was conducted by the Reverend Robert Wright, Rector St Margaret's and Chaplain to the Speaker of the House of Commons.

The General Election in May returned 232 new MPs to the 650-seat House of Commons and a new Conservative/Liberal Democrat coalition government. St Margaret's Church is often referred to as the Parish Church of the House of Commons.

Cambridge Consultations - 'A World to Believe in'

The Archbishop of Canterbury and the Archbishop of York made a joint visit to Cambridge from 20 - 22 February 2008. Their visit formed part of Cambridge Universities Consultations on Faith, Humanity and the Future entitled 'A World to Believe in'.
