The Bible in the Life of the Church Project 04/06/10

The Archbishop is delighted to announce the Bible in the Life of the Church project - a project which aims to discover how Anglicans worldwide read their Bible and provides tailored tools to help them do so in a deeper and more objective way. He says the project "will enable us - as is appropriate for something guided by the Holy Spirit -- to listen to one another and speak to one another with greater love and greater intelligence and greater energy for mission".

Treasures of Lambeth Palace Library Exhibition 17/05/10

Lambeth Palace Library is one of the earliest public libraries in England, founded in 1610 under the will of Archbishop Richard Bancroft. In celebration of its 400th anniversary, the Library is opening a fascinating exhibition to the public in the Great Hall of Lambeth Palace from 17 May - 23 July 2010. The Archbishop of Canterbury and Lambeth Palace Library staff welcome you to this unique event.

To mark World Malaria Day, The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, has for the first time, recorded a message to demonstrate his support and to urge others to unite in the fight against malaria. His message supports the global coalition, United Against Malaria, which aims to raise global awareness and renew worldwide commitment to ending malaria, as well as to increase the use of prevention tools and malaria treatment in Africa.

The Archbishop tells global south gathering: There are no quick solutions for the wounds of the body of Christ. The Archbishop of Canterbury has used his video address to the Fourth Global South to South Encounter meeting in Singapore to emphasise that it is the work of Gods Spirit that can heal the tensions within the Anglican family.

Faith in the World Sixth Form Conference 04/02/10

Around 350 A-Level students and their teachers from more than 60 schools joined the Archbishop of Canterbury at a Sixth Form conference in London one February afternoon. Along with guest speakers Revd Richard Coles (priest and broadcaster) and Professor Elaine Graham (University of Chester), they were tackling the question, 'What does faith mean for society today?' It's a question that affects us all, but for these students of Religious Studies or Philosophy & Ethics A-Level, it's a question that brings their studies alive and puts them right in the centre of public life.

A questions and answers session with the students and speakers followed the speeches.

Christian Muslim Forum - Pt 1 09/10/08

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, who is the Founding Patron of the Christian Muslim Forum, chaired its Annual General Meeting at Lambeth Palace on 9th October 2008.

The Christian Muslim Forum is the national organization which exists to strengthen joint work for the common good, to develop trusting friendships and respond to current events. Its Presidents are leaders from the different Christian and Muslim denominations and its members include those with specialisms in education, youth, international affairs , media, family and community affairs.

One of the virtues of the Forum is that it operates at that grass roots level: that it seeks to build trust and understanding among what for the sake of brevity I'll call ordinary believers and the challenge is to translate the theological and intellectual dialogue with the issues of local and national, social problems.

Building Bridges Seminar

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, and participants of the Building Bridges Seminar give their thoughts on the event chaired by the Archbishop. The Building Bridges Seminar is a unique annual series which brings together a range of internationally recognised Christian and Muslim scholars for an intensive study of relevant Biblical and Qur'anic texts. Lord Carey convened the first Building Bridges seminar in 2002.

The Archbishop's Reflections on 2008 Visit To Rome

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, was in Rome between 5 and 9 May. During the trip he chaired the annual Building Bridges seminar, where Christians and Muslims spend time together discussing scriptural texts. The Archbishop also installed David Richardson, Director of the Anglican Centre, as his representative in Rome, and held meetings with Pope Benedict XVI and key Vatican officials.

Archbishops' Reflections on the Slave Pits in Zanzibar 06/03/06
